Community Engagement and Service Learning at IU East

The IU East campus has a long history of community engagement.

The IU East Campus Library and Archives work closely with the Center of Service Learning, service oriented classes, and several community organizations on a variety of community engagement projects. The library and archives work to preserve documentation and photos of these events, past and present.

The student newspaper located in the IU East archives provides a varied and interesting insight into the history of student and community engagment. With help from library student staff Brittany Yoder and Dakota Firsich, who indexed the student newspapers and scanned the articles, we are able to present a vast selection of articles focused on community engagement. We have newspaper highlights from past editions of the student newspapers, The Pioneer Press, New Voice, and The Howler, as well as some reflections from members of the IU East community who have been engaged in service.

This exhibit also presents photographs taken by the Center of Service Learning, The Volunteer Action Center, and The IU East Campus Library.
