About

This Omeka website is a Bicentennial Internship project that showcases the History of Civic and Community Engagement at the IU East campus. The process of acquiring information about the vast amount of Civic and Community Engagement included looking through the library archives of the different IU East newspapers. Another way of obtaining information was by interviewing a variety of students, staff and faculty. Each interviewee related their involvement in community and civic engagement and how it has impacted them, as well as the impact it had on the community.

Two exhibits are featured on this website, with collections of various news article clippings, scrapbook pages, photographs, and informational content that helps to document the History of Community and Civic Engagement at the IU East campus. The first exhibit was created by Maureen Girdler, Bicentennial Intern for Spring 2018, and focuses on service learning and community projects with children and older adults. The second exhibit was created by Brittany Yoder, Bicentennial Intern for Summer 2018, and focuses on campus/community art initiatives.

Special thanks to IU's Office of the Bicentennial, The Indiana University East Library and Archives, The Center of Service Learning, and all the service learning faculty and students who were interviewed or provided materials for this project.
